Day 5

This morning was a hard one, as we had to say goodbye to all the amazing
people we met and had stayed with at Krang Angkrang Pei Community. We were
sad to farewell all the children we had met, especially those we had
formed bonds with and named, such as 'JB, Tink, and Low Rider', as well as
the community leader and teachers. However, we started on our journey to
the next community, Kork Khleang Pei, with the group enjoying a bike ride
as order of transport, with the 3 girls who 'couldn't ride a bike'
steaming ahead and gaining much more confidence! Kork Khleang Pei is a
very different type of community physically, with the people living much
closer together. This however, was not a negative factor. 

Once here, the group split up into two smaller groups, and started their morning
activites. My group visited a lady who taught us how to make a kind of
Khmer sweet cake soup with dumplings, which turned out to be very tasty!
We then moved on to our next activity, having a community talk with the
deputy leader. Listening to his story, his family, and his
responsibilities within the community allowed us to realise the pressure
he was under, but also the amount he cared about the people he helps lead.
After our third Khmer lesson, in which we were all challenged to buy
something from the local shop in Khmer, we went back into the classroom to
teach another successful lesson, and help the kids read some more books,
therefore improving their english. 

The day was coming to an end, and we sadly left this third community, 

saying another goodbye to some more incredible people. 

The group rode a 'Tuk Tuk' back through town and then
had a very nice dinner in which all the girls were so over-tired that we
would not stop laughing. With an interesting choice of 'spiders' for
dinner for some, the tired group finally ended our day with a quiet
reflection and a well deserved sleep on an actual mattress, something we
were all looking forward to!
