Everyone met at the airport by 5.30 - tired (some had little sleep after
their social), a few a little terrified, but all very excited at what was
ahead. Thanks to the parents and family and friends who came to see us
off!
Checked in and after waving a final goodbye found the departure terminal
and lounge before seeking a snack breakfast.
Following some seat swapping in the airbus we settle down to eight hours
of being fed, watching movies and taking the occasional stroll around to
stretch the legs. There were only a few small bumpy patched to rattle the
nerves of the not-so-seasoned travellers.
Reaching Singapore we realised that we had left early spring behind and
were now in much warmer regions! Singapore airport is SO BIG we had to
take a rail from one terminal to another. There were activities and shops
to give us some active time before the next flight.
The flight to Cambodia was much shorter. We collected our luggage easily
and was greeted by a coach to transport us to our hotel.
There were crowds of people: our initial impression was of crowds of
people living so close together in areas of rubble and rubbish. But the
people were happy and welcoming! Horns honked all the time - not in
frustration but in gentle warning to minds their presence. There was a
smoky smell - sometimes of incense - was it to mask other smells?
Our hotel was very comfortable - two to a room - air conditioning and fans
to help us sleep of a night. We left our luggage were taken to a restaurant
nearby which was quite luxurious! The food was delicious and we noticed
that the drinks cost more than the food.
There was late rain - we got a little wet but it was nice to help cool off
the warm evening!
We felt privileged to have what we did - we were tired, grateful for
having homes after seeing people pull plastic over themselves in the
street as they settle with their families for the night! We must all keep
an open mind about many things!
Tomorrow will be more than interesting!
