blog for 26th Sunday car trip from Phnom Penh to Siem Reip
Today we travelled to Siem Riep from Phnom Penh. This was a long 7 hour
trip with some interesting stops along the way. The day started with a 7am
o'clock start leaving at 8am, the first hour was a very bumpy ride as the
roads are very different to Australia.
Looking out the window you were able to see the different farmers and
people living in the rural areas of Cambodia. This was very interesting to observe.
One of our first stops was a place know as Spider City where cockroaches and
spiders were a favorite around the village. Many girls were hesitant to get off the
bus but Ms Fisher had no hesitation covering herself in 6 fully grown tarantula
spiders.
After a quick stop we were back on the road again becoming more
isolated from city people and into the rural areas. Our next stop was
along side the road where some amazing statues and sculptures were being
made with such detail and as tall as most of the girls. Next was a quick
stop for lunch in a small village then it was another 90 min till Siem
Riep. It was about 3 o'clock when we arrived, being welcomed with a cool
banana and pineapple smoothie to cool us down. After some time to cool off
and get refreshed we met together to go watch the sunset from Angkor Wat.
We met our new tour guide who took us round to one of the temples. We
travelled by foot and climbed to the top where we were able to explore and
stand at the top to watch the magnificent sunset. After a walk back down
to the bus we got together and finished off our day with dinner on
Pub St at a Cambodian restaurant. It was a wonderful night to finish of a
hard day of travelling
